Question                                                                         fromDean                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Aloha Dutch, During your free time in Hawaii, did you do some fishing ? Also did you and the "RAT PACK " hang out with each other ?

Hello Dean from Hawaii. I did a lot of free diving and nighttime reef spear fishing. I didn't do too much rod and reel, although Ripper Collins and I did some bass fishing together and did quite well at it..Curtis and Fugi were into some heavy stuff at the time, and we only saw them on show nights. Most of the babies hung together except Barrend, he was a loner. That's about all this old man remembers. I lived over in Lanakai, just up from Kailua close to the beach,,, the rest except ,,, ,,,Collins lived in Kailua... Thanks Dutch

Question from Tibor                                                                                                                                                                                                         Hi Dutch. Just like to reminisce with you, especially the Ron Morriea  interview with you & Bulldog Brown at the Chan 8 Studios taping of All Star Wrestling. Ron handed over a gift wrapped box to you gents. You both  appeared amused & somewhat delighted to receive a present from out of the  blue. As Brown ripped off the wrapping & opened the box - I can still see the stunned look on his face & you Savage distinctly saying - "What is  this!" "What is that!". Ron was hysteric in laughter & continued to do so through out the show! I think you Savage pulled out the box, some kind of  foot long cow bone, my guess that it was meant to insult Bulldog Brown with a king size doggy bone! My father was in stitches with laughter as well. Brown stood there speechless while you Savage got riled & ranted your suspicion as to where it came from, my guess was Don Leo Jonathan & Dean Higuchie prior to the big tag team match the next scheduled night at the PNE Gardens. Oh, those were the days! Thanks for the memories! A fan forever! I was saddened to read that B. Brown past away in Arizona back in mid '90s. Peace Bro.

Hello Tibor from West Vancouver, Canada ,,yes I remember vaguely the interview with Ron Morreia, and Bull dog brown before his demise. I am glad your Dad got such a kick out of it, because that is what it ewas designed to do. This little charade went all over Canada, believe it or not it is what gave credence to the Bull dogs name. People love it , thus the chant from crowds " savages dog". Everyone was doing it around the nation of Canada. Thank you for jogging those old man's memory. Great stuff, I will always remember Vancouver, B.C. and I hope they remember me. That gimmick is what helped Brown along in his career,,,, peace Dutch

Sandy had one city,,, Salem the state capital. He did a good job with it later. Then when the old territory closed down in the 80's he tried to resurrect the old territory,,, couldn't get any good talent and he himself closed it down. Sandy had a web site "sandybarr.com", and his business phone where he has his wrestling school is 503-515-7698,,, just incase your interested in contacting him,,,, thank you for the note,,,, Dutch

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Question: from Chris Covey
Dear Dutch Savage,In the early fall of 1969 at the age of 8 and the oldest of four, my mother left my father in the middle of the night while he was working at the Chrysler plant in Newark DE. The five of us left from Betterton,MD to Wilmington,DE and got on a train and set out for Oregon. The birth place of my mother and myself, and where she grew up. We moved in with her folks for a while in Bend, Oregon. Anyway, my beloved Baltimore Colts with the great Earl Moral taking over the Greater Johnny Unitas, who was my hero at the time. They barely won the Super bowl against the Dallas Cowboys. We watched that nail biter game in the living room of my Grand folks. And that's the setting I recall where my Granddad introduced me to a wrestling show on their black n white TV. He sat me down and began to tell me  exciting stories of a certain wrestler he revered over all others. The one and only "Dutch Savage". The living room became full of excitement when your match  came on. And when I finally got to see you wrestle that night, I was hooked and Dutch Savage became my hero. I'm not sure who you wrestled that night, I  think you won. Every one was really happy of the out come. And I was left with  the impression that you were a no non sense type of wrestler, who got right to  the point of the matter and took the show to another level. Some of that must of rubbed off on me. It helped me deal with bully's back then. Some found out that this little guy was packing dynamite and could go off quick if  necessary. I'm not sure if I caught any more shows on TV. But I had a run in with  Bull Ramos at a 7-11 type of store near Milwaukee, Oregon. I was about 10  years old when I noticed this huge Indian fella coming outside from the  store. Mind you, I was in the parking lot near the street on my own.  Probably looking to get some bubble gum and comic's. I must of recognized  him and yelled out at him. Well he got all animated and started hollering  back at me. I thought he was mad, coming to get me. I yelled back " Dutch Savage is going to kick your butt!" Oh man, he didn't like that at all. He  kept hollering back at me shaking his huge arms and fist's as he squeezed  himself into what I think might of been a brown Catalina. That was a big car and he made it look like a compact. The last thing I recall, I was watching that enormous face and head that was still hollering out at me as  he rolled on down the road. The shocks on that car were getting a real  work out as I stood in amazement. I stood my ground Dutch, I don't think I showed him any fear. But believe me you I  was ready to run like a deer in an instant. Well I moved back to Maryland with my dad's new family at age 13. Finished  up school-did a little' wrestling in High school, never lost an official  match. Attended the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and became an Illustrator/Graphic Artist and currently reside near Ocean City, MD. Anyway it took me over 5 years to finally attempt to write this up, which  I did longhand before hitting the keys. Thanks for all the great memories  you've shared with us all. I have a friend who was a helicopter pilot in the       Vietnam war. He say's  he remembered seeing you wrestle when he lived in California. Any how he  told me of a story of a live show he and a friend went to. I believe they  had more then one too many. During one of the matches the two were near  the ring corner and took the opportunity to grab one of the wrestlers leg.  In which the wrestler turned, grin, chuckled and then promptly kicked the two away as if they were bugs. I don't think they were escorted from the  venue that night. But I'm sure they were licking their wounds as they try  to behave themselves So are their any type of experience's of this nature that make you chuckle  ? Red skies and tight lines, Peace, fight the right fight and God Bless,
Chris Covey

Dear Chris, I am astonished and embarrassed at the really very nice letter you have just written to this old man. My face is red from the allcolaides and the nice comments about out era,,, bless your heart, this one I will frame and hang it on the wall of my personal office at home,,,, my, my,,, this really humbles a beat up old man. I just turned 70 Chris and now I will tell you a very true story about a young man ,,, and this will blow your young mind......from ELKTON, MARYLAND. Cecil County to be exact, I was raised up on Fair Hill, Maryland,, 5 miles out in the country from Elkton. My real Name is Frank Stewart, and my brother was Luke Brown of the Kentuckians,,,Luke died in 97, heart problems. I was the right end, he was the right tackle on the football team, I was a forward on the basketball team, he was the center.(6"8" 285 lbs.). I was a pitcher and he was the catcher on the base ball team, he threw the shot and I the Discus in track. We both made all-state in football, I made all state in basketball, ,I set a state record in the discus and we both went to college on football scholarships,, he went to Xavier and I to Marshall U in West Va.. This should blow your mind, we used to, play Ocean City in basketball in the 50's , beat the stuffing out of them , they stopped scheduling us after two years of drubbing. I sure am glad you had second thoughts about getting too close to the Bull. Bull would have put you in the hospital in those years and never gave it a second thought. He is very ill now, he lives in the Houston area on his farm, is blind , has lost his kidneys and only weighs about 190 lbs. He will always be my friend, we went through hell during our career together and have managed to stay friends. He is my Mano'.Now for the HS wrestling never lost a match,,,,, young man at my old age ,you try a single, or double leg sweep on me and I will make you sorry your mother gave you breath!!!! You like that one I have a thousand more.... HA What a small world. First guy that has written me from back home, amazing and it's been 35 years. Checked out your neat site, good job. Berlin , Md., boy what memories. I still am having a disbelief moment,,,, finally, finally, someone from back home wrote to me about my career,,,,, people back there must know about our wrestling site, I guess they just can't picture Frank Stewart is really Dutch Savage. I can't tell you how much you have lifted this old man's heart with your very kind words Chris,,,,,,you have a right spirit within you. By the By,,, I have a TV show out here in the Portland SW Washington area that hits about a million folks or so, called Dutch's corner,,,, are you ready for this ......I teach KJV of the Scriptures,,,, again my humblest thank you
young man and God's peace Granpa Dutch

Almost forgot, ask your mother if she new a Frank Stewart, at the Newark
